FALL FESTIVAL - This event is managed exclusively by our DOFOs (Dads of Fred Olds). Join in fellowship and make new friends at this FREE Friday night event that includes games and inflatables. SEPTEMBER 30, 2022. 5 pm
WOLF WALKATHON - This is the largest fundraiser of the year for the PTA. We incorporate fundraising with FUN and BEING ACTIVE! Students collect pledges, then walk 16 laps (1.5 miles) the day of the event. Parents and families are invited to join us for the Walkathon. We encourage supporters to come out and enjoy the music, "mark the t-shirts", and cheer on the students. OCTOBER 21, 2022
GRANDPARENTS AND SPECIAL FRIENDS LUNCHEON - This annual luncheon is so well-attended that we have to set up tables in the gym as well as the cafeteria ! Hundreds attend this traditional Thanksgiving lunch and enjoy the company of family and friends. The delicious meal is catered in by a local restaurant, and a bake sale provides delicious desserts. Each year, this event is held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Break. NOVEMBER 22, 2022
BOOK FAIR - For a week each year, students are able to browse and buy books at the Scholastic Book Fair in our media center. Kickoff occurs at the Fall Festival, and over the next week the students visit during class and before and after school. To support the love of reading, our PTA ensures that all children - regardless of family resources - are able to purchase a book during the book fair. DECEMBER 12, 2022
SCIENCE FAIR - About half the students at Olds participate in this event each year. Lower grades can submit collections, and all grades can submit demonstrations or experiments. Judges from the community review the entries, and eight of the winners will advance to regional Science Fair competitions. Help is offered for children who need guidance with their projects, and all the students have the opportunity to visit the Science Fair and learn about their classmates' projects. JANUARY 5-6, 2023
SPELLING BEE - This event includes students at all grade levels. In classrooms, each teacher will hold a class Spelling Bee in January. These students study and recite grade-level word lists from Scripps. For students who wish to compete at a higher level, we also hold an after-school event. Because Olds is such a small school, we have the capacity to allow ALL WHO WISH TO PARTICIPATE to enter our school-wide spelling bee (not just classroom winners). Typically, over forty students participate in this event, and our school winner moves on to compete in the Wake County Spelling Bee. JANUARY 25, 2023
SPRING FLING - Also managed by our DOFOs, this spring event brings back the games, inflatables, bake sale, and lots of fun! On a warm spring night, Olds families and neighbors come together to enjoy each others' company and let the kids run wild. Also at the Spring Fling is an Art Show, including art submissions and Reflections entries, and an awesome Dunking Booth! This year's Spring Fling is MAY 19, 2023 (TBD)
